Friday Photo: Jindo Gae
Today’s Friday Photo is from my stint on Jindo Island, in a very rural area of South Korea. I lived there for a year, teaching English and driving my motorcycle all over the island. Jindo Island is famous within Korea for being the origin of Korea’s national dog, the Jindo Gae. The Jindo is a hunting breed originally used to track down and kill the tigers which used to roam the peninsula. They are highly intelligent and highly independent, and their beautiful orange or white coats are quite thick. This particular Jindo was in his dog house, guarding the courtyard of a farmer’s family.
